Day 1 of Vacation

The first full day of our trip, Tuesday, we went to the Virginia Beach Aquarium where Sam was so excited to see the sharks. There are two buildings at the aquarium and they are a bit of a distance apart. We started in the building that doesn't have sharks b/c Tuesdays are "storytime" days and we wanted the kids to see the puppet show and storytime that was being held. They were somewhat interested in this although I think the highlight of being in that part of the aquarium was seeing the otters and touching a snake named Elvis. Once we finally got to the other building Sam was on a mission to get to the sharks. Of course the sharks are at the very back of the building and when we would stop to see the other exhibits he would quickly say, "let's go see something else." Very impatient! We finally get to the sharks and after a minute (I'm not exaggerating) he said "let's go see something else." So that was that for the aquarium.

After our visit to the aquarium we had lunch and quiet time (only mommy slept, go figure!) we went out to Mimi and Pappy's pond to feed the ducks and turtles. The past couple of years there have been maybe 20 ducks and 4 or 5 turtles. This year there are still 4 or 5 turtles but there are 42 ducks! These ducks and turtles are not afraid of people. They are very aggressive and one duck even bit my toe trying to get some bread! Claire was a little scared of them so she sat on my lap but Sam had a great time throwing bread to them. After feeding the ducks and turtles we went to the little library down the street to get some books and then to the playground. By the end of the day we were all exhausted and ready for the day to be done.
