Soccer
Yesterday was Sam's first soccer practice. He will be practicing twice a week until the season actually starts on Sept. 12th. We didn't have any soccer gear so before practice we headed to Academy Sports to get shin guards, socks and shorts. Fortunately we are able to use his baseball shoes for soccer shoes too and didn't have to spend money on new shoes. After we got home from Academy Sports we had about 15 minutes until his first practice so he put on all of his gear and was ready to go. Boy did he look cute! Practices are at the elementary school down the street so at least we don't have to drive far. There are 6 boys on the team, 1 boy he already knew, and Sam seemed at ease with all the boys and the coach. It was very hot, 95 degrees, so there were lots of water breaks. One parent brought a water bottle to spray the boys, which is something I will have to do for future practices. Sam seemed to have a great time despite the heat and after practice he got to play on the playground for a couple of minutes which is always a treat. Both kids were very hot and sweaty by the time we left practice but no one was complaining too much, well, except for me! He has another practice on Sunday and we will be prepared with lots of things to keep him cool. Hopefully Sam's excitement will continue for the rest of the season.
